SWIMMING ABILITY

Our coaches work with our swimmers to teach each of the swim strokes, as well as dive and flip techniques, at the appropriate age. However, we do not provide swim lessons. New swimmers must be 4 years of age as of April 1st, and must attend a tryout before our pre-season begins, at which time their ability to safely swim across the pool will be evaluated. Our coaches and assistants will be in the water during try-outs for your child's safety.

Swimmers joining us from another team may be asked to attend try-outs.

SWIM SEASON / PRACTICE SCHEDULES

Our swim season lasts from April through July.

Practices begin in early April where swimmers are primarily separated by age. Practices are held in the late afternoon/early evening and run from 30-75 minutes depending on the age group. During the school year, practices run Mon - Thur and  once school is out for the summer, practices run Mon-Fri. Practices end in late July.

Swim Meets start in mid May and end by the first weekend of August. see below for more details.

Please see our Calendar page for this season's specific swim practice times listed by age group.

POOL SAFETY POLICIES

Practices are held at the Heritage High School (HHS), which has a gated pool deck. During practices, parents are welcome to watch their swimmers from the grass area outside the gated pool deck. Many of our parents bring blankets or sports chairs to use during this time. The current City of Brentwood and Liberty Unified High School District regulations can be found on our Health and Safety page.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

We will go over specific equipment at Family Orientation Night, but your swimmer will need a swim suit for practices, swim goggles, a swim cap, swim fins, kickboard... and towels! We will have many of these items available for purchase at either Family Orientation, the Kick Off Party, or during the first few weeks of practice. We will also have team swim suits, team swim caps, and other team apparel available for order at those times. Swimmers may wear their own swim suits for practices. We encourage our swimmers to wear the team suit and cap for swim meets.

SWIMMER PARTICIPATION

Swimmers are expected to attend most swim practices every week. We require all swimmers to participate in Time Trials, held in early May, to establish their baseline swim times. Each swimmer is required to sign up for a minimum of  5  dual swim meets per season (see handbook for this season's specific requirement). Invitational meets are scheduled separately, and participation is optional, with an additional fee to join. All swimmers are required to participate in the ECSL Championships at the end of the season.

SWIM MEETS & EVENTS

Regular season dual/tri swim meets are held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings, and usually run 5-6 hours. Swimmers are assigned 2-3 individual events once they are confirmed as attending.

Invitational meets are on weekends and can run all day. Theses are larger multi-team meets often with unique rules and events. They are optional to attend and swimmers choose their own events with entry and per-event fees.

ECSL Championships (ECSLs) is the end of season meet for the Auqaknights, Antioch Delta Skimmers, Bishop Estates Swim Team, Solar Swim Sea Monsters, and Brentwood Dolphin Swim Club. It is a 1-day event held on a Saturday at the end of the July. All swimmers are required to participate in the event.

Contra Costa County Championships (County) is the first weekend of August. Swimmers can enter only if they achieve a qualifying time for the meet. Making it to County is the ultimate achievement for a swimmer of our Team and League.

Please see our Calendar page for this season's swim meet and event dates.

PARENT WORK REQUIREMENTS

We are a parent-run sports team and for this reason, we require each family to be prepared to work one parent job shift at each meet in which their swimmer participates and earn a minimum of  8  job points. You will be able to sign up for jobs 2-3 weeks before each meet. Jobs vary in point value, duration, and start time. Your work period may be prior to the meet, during the length of the meet (with relief subs available for breaks), or after the meet.
